This is due to the fact the British Leyland is the company that purchased the Austin Car Company in 1968 and carried on the tradition of maximizing their profitably by using a parts bin for all of their cars and not making unique ones to fit each brand.

Not unlike the General Motors cars of the past that used the same model and parts for the different brands with only a name tag and motor being different, the British did the same but to a greater degree.

There were some differences like the changing of the carburetors were upgraded to 1 1/8” on the early Austin Healey Sprite models but the rack and pinion steering from the Morris Minor 1000 is the exact same.

In 1964 the engine capacity was increased to 1098cc from the previous 948cc. Then again in 1967 to 1971 the engine had a capacity of 1275cc. This means for 13 years only three types of engines were used.  Most of the other parts follow the same trend when you are in search of one. This allows you more chances to find a used part of your old Austin Healey Sprite from a local parts dealer.

For those hard to find parts, there are still some new and OEM parts available in England when no other place can be found. The internet has made this search considerably easier today than it was just 10 years ago, so take your time and find the right part that does not need to be modified, it does exist today.
